Oyo Police Foil Kidnapping, Rescue Victim Alive

The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a 23-year-old suspect, Sodiq Kayode Akorede, in connection with the gruesome murder of a six-year-old girl in Ibadan, the state capital.

The tragic incident occurred on April 11, 2026, at Adigun Village in the Olorunda Ogunsola area, where the suspect was allegedly found in possession of the severed head of the victim, later identified as Mutiyatu Sunday.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the Command received intelligence about the incident and swiftly mobilized operatives to the scene on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga.

The police team reportedly encountered resistance from angry mob but acted with restraint and  rescue the suspect from possible lynching, arrest him, and secure the recovered human head as evidence.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly murdered the young girl and severed her head. During interrogation, he reportedly confessed to the crime. Police authorities added that the suspect sustained injuries from the mob attack and was taken to a medical facility for treatment.

The Command stated that the suspect would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for further investigation and prosecution, while also warning residents against jungle justice, emphasizing that such actions could hinder proper investigation and the course of justice.
