The Oyo State Government has inaugurated two strategic committees aimed at strengthening the state’s tourism sector and positioning it for long-term growth. The committees include the Organising Committee for the International Tourism Summit Oyo State 2026 and a 25-Year Tourism Master Plan Committee designed to guide sustainable development in the industry.
The International Tourism Summit is scheduled to hold from May 12 to 14, 2026, and is expected to bring together stakeholders, investors, and policymakers to explore opportunities within the tourism ecosystem. The Organising Committee is chaired by the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr Wasiu Olatubosun, with members including the Commissioner for Finance, Mr Akinola Ojo, and other key government officials and private sector representatives.
Other members of the summit’s organising team include Dr Morohunkola Thomas, Director-General of OYMASED; Dr Debo Akande, Executive Adviser on Agribusiness, International Cooperation and Development; Mr Tilewa Folami, Director-General of OYSIPA; Dr Sulaimon Olanrewaju, Special Adviser on Media; and Ms Abigail Anaba, Chief Experience Officer of Slvr Wlf Digitale Ltd.
In addition, the government constituted the 25-Year Tourism Master Plan Committee, a forward-looking body tasked with developing a comprehensive roadmap for the sector. The committee, also chaired by Dr Olatubosun, will focus on creating policies and frameworks to attract investment, enhance tourism infrastructure, and ensure continuity beyond political administrations.
Members of the master plan committee include Alhaja Adejoke Mulikat Agboola as Secretary, alongside industry experts and academics such as Professor Lameed Gbolagade of the University of Ibadan, Mr Sunmonu Dauud Gbenga of the Federation of Tourism Associations of Nigeria (FTAN), and Engr. Kayode Adegbulugbe, CEO of The JAGZ Hotel, Ibadan.
Speaking during the inauguration, the state government emphasized the importance of commitment and active participation from committee members, describing the initiative as “serious work” critical to the socio-economic development of the state. The government expressed confidence that both committees would deliver impactful outcomes that will benefit the people and transform Oyo State into a major tourism hub.
