The Oyo State Police Command has recorded a significant breakthrough in its ongoing crackdown on motorcycle theft, with the arrest of two suspected thieves operating across state lines and the recovery of stolen motorcycles. The development underscores intensified efforts by the Command to curb rising cases of vehicle-related crimes within the state.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the operation followed credible intelligence on the activities of a 24-year-old suspect, Ibrahim Adebisi, who allegedly specialized in stealing motorcycles from where they were parked.
Acting on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, a coordinated police team tracked and arrested Adebisi at his residence without any resistance. During interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed to the crime and provided details of his operations.
Police investigations revealed that Adebisi typically stole motorcycles from Ilesa in Osun State before transporting them to the Ojoo area of Ibadan, where they were sold. Acting swiftly on this information, officers extended their operation to Ojoo, leading to the arrest of a second suspect, 23-year-old Hussein Haruna, who was identified as a receiver of stolen motorcycles.
Further searches conducted by the police led to the recovery of three unregistered motorcycles, including two Boxer models and one TVS Neo NX ladies’ motorcycle. Authorities noted that the suspects had already distributed several other stolen motorcycles, with efforts underway to recover them and apprehend other members of the syndicate still at large.
The Commissioner of Police commended the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olutunji Rilwan Disu, for his continued support and strategic leadership. He also reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, urging members of the public to provide timely and credible information to assist ongoing security operations.
