Fresh Accident Hits Ibadan as Container Falls Off Trailer, Destroys Parked Motorcycles

A fresh wave of grief has swept through Ibadan following another tragic road accident in less than 24 hours, leaving residents in shock and deep concern over safety on major roads within the city.

This latest incident occurred on Saturday morning in the Molete area, barely a day after a fatal crash at Oke Ado claimed the life of a tricycle operator.

An Ibadan City Announcer correspondent present at the scene reports that a trailer conveying a heavily loaded container was moving along the axis when the container suddenly detached and fell off, landing on several commercial motorcycles parked by the roadside. The riders were reportedly waiting for passengers at the time of the incident.

Several motorcycles were crushed beneath the container, while others were badly damaged and strewn across the road, creating a scene of destruction. Motorcycle owners were seen wailing and lamenting as they surveyed the losses.

As of the time of filing this report, the number of casualties has not been confirmed. Rescue operations were ongoing, with emergency responders working to lift the fallen container to ascertain whether any individuals were trapped beneath the wreckage.

The driver of the trailer was immediately arrested by officers of the Nigeria Police Force, a move that prevented a potential mob attack as tensions rose at the scene.

Further checks by Ibadan City Announcer confirmed that police authorities have contacted the owner of the container, who has assured that he will report at the station as investigations continue.

Officials of the Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority, Federal Road Safety Corps, and the police were actively involved in rescue efforts and traffic control around the area.

The back-to-back accidents have heightened anxiety among residents, with renewed calls for stricter monitoring and regulation of heavy-duty vehicles operating within Ibadan.

As of press time, the Oyo State Government has yet to release an official statement on the incidents.
