The Oyo State Government has expressed strong support for the inauguration and commissioning of the newly established Violent Crimes Response Unit by the Oyo State Police Command, describing the initiative as timely and necessary in strengthening the state’s security architecture.
Speaking during the inauguration of the unit, the state government said the development reflects a collective determination to ensure residents continue to live and conduct their activities in peace and safety amid growing security concerns across parts of the country.
The government acknowledged recent incidents of kidnapping and violent crimes, including the reported abduction involving children in Oriire Local Government Area, which it described as deeply troubling to families and communities.
Authorities said security agencies were already working to establish clarity surrounding the incident while extending condolences to affected families.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families that have lost their loved ones. May the souls of the departed rest in peace,” the government stated.
According to the administration, the incidents serve as a reminder that security must never be taken for granted and that governments at all levels must remain proactive, vigilant, and responsive.
The state government further noted that economic growth, investment, tourism, and social stability can only thrive in an atmosphere of safety and public confidence.
It added that the administration had continued to support security agencies through logistics, mobility support, surveillance infrastructure, intelligence sharing, and improved inter-agency collaboration across the state.
The newly established Violent Crimes Response Unit was described as a more intelligence-driven and rapid-response strategy targeted at tackling violent crimes and improving public safety.
The government also commended the emphasis placed on professionalism, tactical preparedness, accountability, and respect for human rights in the operations of the unit.
The administration assured the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies operating within the state of continued support aimed at strengthening efforts to protect lives and property.
Officials also stressed that security remains a collective responsibility, urging residents to remain vigilant, provide timely information to security agencies, and cooperate in isolating criminal elements within communities.
The government commended the Inspector-General of Police and the Oyo State Police Command for the initiative while also praising security personnel for their sacrifices in maintaining peace and stability across the state.
It expressed optimism that the new unit would strengthen security operations and contribute significantly to sustaining peace, safety, and stability in Oyo State.
