The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on Saturday visited Oyo State following the deadly attack and abduction incident that occurred in Oriire Local Government Area in the early hours of Friday, May 15, 2026.
During the visit, the IGP expressed deep concern over the incident and extended condolences to families of victims who lost their lives during the attack.
The police chief was accompanied by the Commissioner of Police, Kwara State Command, Ojo Adekimi, due to the strategic proximity of the Oriire axis to border communities in Kwara State.
Also on the visit was Abayomi Shogunle, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen school safety and coordinate emergency response measures in vulnerable communities.
The IGP later met with the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, alongside other security stakeholders, where he received operational briefings on rescue efforts and security deployments across affected areas.
According to the police hierarchy, coordinated search-and-rescue operations, intelligence gathering, and tactical deployments have been intensified to secure the safe return of abducted victims and track down those responsible for the attack.
The Inspector-General condemned the incident, describing it as cruel and unacceptable, while assuring residents, parents, and guardians that security agencies would not relent until normalcy is restored.
He further directed the deployment of additional tactical and intelligence assets to reinforce operations across the affected communities and adjoining forests.
The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its commitment to the protection of schools, communities, and citizens across the country.
