The Chairman of the Governing Council of the Federal College of Education (Special), Oyo, Rauf Aderemi Olaniyan, has resigned from his position, effective Monday, March 23, 2026.
Olaniyan, a former Deputy Governor of Oyo State, formally communicated his resignation in a letter addressed to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF). In the correspondence, he stated that his decision was in line with existing legal provisions requiring political appointees seeking elective office to step down prior to participating in party primaries.
He expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the opportunity to serve, describing his tenure as a privilege and an honour. Olaniyan also appreciated members of the governing council and the management of the institution for their support and cooperation during his time in office.
As part of the transition process, he recommended Barrister (Mrs.) Inime Aguma to serve as Acting Chairman of the Governing Council, citing her experience, dedication, and deep understanding of the institution’s operations.
The resignation has since been formally acknowledged and documented by the Office of the Registrar of the college, with official records confirming its submission on March 23, 2026.
Further developments regarding the appointment of a substantive chairman are expected in due course.
