Engr. Oyedele Hakeem Alao has officially declared his intention to contest the Oyo State governorship election under the All Progressives Congress (APC). The declaration took place on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at the Emmanuel Alayande Teachers Resource Centre in Ibadan, drawing party stakeholders and supporters from across the state.
The event witnessed the presence of notable APC leaders and political figures, including Hon. Lekan Adeyemo, Alhaji Kamorudeen Ajisafe, Hon. Lasun Adebunmi, Alhaji Isiaka, Alhaji MKO Laoye, Madam Bisi Olasope, and Hon. Oyewale Akinrinade, among others, who gathered to show support for the aspirant.
In his address, Alao said his decision to join the race was driven by a strong commitment to reposition the state and improve the lives of its citizens. He emphasized that his ambition goes beyond politics, describing it as a call to service anchored on transformation and inclusive development.
“I am Engr. Oyedele Hakeem Alao, and I am answering the call to serve. This is not merely a political ambition; it is a solemn commitment to the transformation of our state and the upliftment of every single citizen” he declared.
He unveiled his policy framework, tagged “Redemption Mission 2027,” which is built on four key pillars: agriculture, healthcare, education, and civil service reform. According to him, these sectors will be reengineered and modernized to drive sustainable growth and development across the state.
Speaking on agriculture, Alao outlined plans to transform the sector into a viable and profitable enterprise through mechanization, establishment of processing zones, and strategic partnerships with industries. He noted that the initiative aims to enhance productivity, create jobs, and position Oyo State as a leading food center in the region
“.Firstly, Agriculture, We will return agriculture to its pride of place, not as a subsistence activity, but as a thriving, modern, and profitable business. Under my watch, we will return dignity to farming through mechanization centers in each zone – Oke-Ogun, Ibarapa, Ogbomoso, Oyo, and Ibadan. Our soil is very rich. Our people are strong” he stated.
He also highlighted the need for improved healthcare delivery and a revitalized civil service, pledging upgrades to primary healthcare centres, better welfare for workers, and a performance-driven system across government institutions. Alao concluded by calling for unity within the party and support from the electorate, expressing confidence in his capacity to lead and deliver meaningful change.
