Oyo State Governor Commissions N800 Million Ultra-Modern Palace Ahead Of Coronation Of 43rd Olubadan
In a historic moment for Ibadan, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has officially commissioned the newly completed ultra-modern palace at Oke Aremo, Ibadan, just in time for the coronation of the 43rd Olubadan, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin.
The grand edifice, designed to mirror the elegance of Buckingham Palace, represents a significant milestone for the ancient city.
The completion of the palace, which had been under construction for several years, marks a turning point as Oba Olakulehin prepares to become the first monarch to occupy the magnificent structure.
Estimated at N800 million, the palace project has been hailed as a testament to the vision and dedication of past and present leaders of Oyo State.
Governor Makinde, in his remarks at the commissioning ceremony, praised the late Governor Abiola Ajimobi for his foresight in initiating the palace project and acknowledged Chief Bayo Oyero for his contributions towards its realization.
“Late Governor Ajimobi was bold in his decision to start this project, and Chief Bayo Oyero’s efforts were instrumental despite initial challenges,” Governor Makinde stated, underscoring the collaborative efforts that made the palace a reality.
The President-General of the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes, Ajeniyi Ajewole, expressed joy over the project’s completion, highlighting its symbolic importance in dispelling misconceptions about Ibadan’s cultural heritage.
“This palace now stands as a symbol of pride for Ibadan people, putting an end to outsider mockery that our city lacked a fitting royal residence,” Ajewole remarked.
Representing the Olubadan-designate, the Osi Balogun of Ibadanland, Oba Lateef Adebimpe, conveyed gratitude to the Oyo State government for its pivotal role in bringing the palace project to fruition.
The commissioning ceremony concluded with expressions of gratitude from all quarters of Ibadan, celebrating the palace as a beacon of tradition and progress for generations to come.
