The Oyo State Government has expressed its commitment to strengthening oral healthcare delivery as it joined the global community to commemorate World Oral Health Day 2026. The event highlighted the importance of oral hygiene as a critical component of overall health and well-being.
Speaking at the occasion, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Oluwaserimi Ajetunmobi, stressed that oral health should not be neglected, noting its direct impact on general health. She reiterated the government’s resolve to improve access to quality dental services across the state.
Dr. Ajetunmobi outlined ongoing efforts by the state government, including initiatives to expand oral healthcare services, increase public awareness, and integrate dental care into primary healthcare systems. She noted that these steps are aimed at ensuring more residents benefit from preventive and curative oral health services.
The Commissioner also highlighted specific interventions such as the inclusion of basic oral health services in antenatal care. According to her, this ensures that pregnant women receive proper education, routine screening, and preventive dental care as part of their healthcare plan.
Stakeholders at the event emphasized that many oral health conditions are largely preventable with good hygiene practices. They urged residents to adopt healthy habits, including regular brushing, reduced sugar intake, and routine dental check-ups.
