The Oyo State Police Command has dismissed a viral video circulating on social media, describing it as outdated and misleading. The video features Alhaji Oriyomi Hamzat, Chairman of Agidigbo 88.7FM Radio Station, making claims about residents being abducted by uniformed individuals.
In a statement, the Command clarified that Alhaji Hamzat himself confirmed the video was originally recorded during the 2020 EndSARS protests and no longer reflects the current security situation.
“The recycling of this video at a time when relative security has been achieved can only be attributed to the handiwork of fifth columnists, whose modus operandi is to spread unfounded rumors and create apprehension,” the statement read.
The Command urged residents to refrain from sharing outdated and unverified information that could cause unnecessary panic. It emphasized the need for the public to verify content before dissemination and warned that legal action would be taken against those responsible for spreading false information.
Reaffirming its commitment to the safety and security of Oyo State residents, the police encouraged citizens to rely on credible sources for accurate information and avoid being misled by social media misinformation.
