Affected residents along the Ibadan Circular Road have called on Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, to urgently facilitate the payment of compensation following the demolition of their properties.
The appeal was made during a radio programme, “Agbami Oselu,” where a representative of the affected residents, Kayode Oyejobi, expressed concern over what he described as prolonged neglect of victims’ welfare.
Oyejobi disclosed that none of the property owners affected by the demolition stretch from Badeku to Molarere have received compensation, nearly two years after the exercise.
According to him, the residents have held multiple engagements with officials of the Oyo State New Towns and Cities Agency under the Ministry of Lands in a bid to press their demands. He added that a formal reminder letter was also submitted to the governor’s office about a month ago.
He lamented that the delay in compensation has had devastating consequences on the affected residents, revealing that some victims have died, while others are currently battling chronic health conditions linked to the hardship.
Oyejobi stated that a total of 632 residents were impacted by the demolition, noting that July 2026 would mark two years since their homes were pulled down.
He further explained that while there were reports that a first batch of affected residents had received compensation, those in the second batch are yet to benefit from any payment despite repeated assurances from the state government.
The residents are now urging the government to act swiftly to address their plight and fulfil its compensation obligations.
