How Police Tracked, Crushed Kidnap Syndicate Behind Adelabu’s Sister, Twins’ Abduction

The Oyo State Police Command has visited the house where Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke, sister of former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, and her twin sons were allegedly held by kidnappers following their abduction in Ibadan.

The visit formed part of ongoing investigations into the kidnapping incident that shocked residents of the state and attracted national attention.

Addressing journalists during a press briefing, the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, provided detailed insight into the intelligence-led operation that led to the successful rescue of the victims, the neutralisation of two kidnappers, the arrest of four other suspects, and the recovery of firearms, ammunition, vehicles, and other incriminating exhibits.

According to the police, Mrs. Adegoke, 42, alongside her 11-year-old twin sons, Peter and Paul, was abducted at about 7:30 a.m. on June 3, 2026, while driving the children to school along Elewura Street, off Ring Road, Ibadan.

The victims were reportedly intercepted by four armed men operating in an unregistered ash-coloured Toyota vehicle before being taken to a hideout where they were held captive.

The Commissioner of Police disclosed that immediately after the incident was reported, the Inspector-General of Police directed a coordinated manhunt involving operatives of the Force Intelligence Department–Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT), the Oyo State Police Command, and other tactical units of the Nigeria Police Force.

Investigators subsequently intensified surveillance and intelligence gathering efforts, leading to the arrest of one Wale Abolalewa, popularly known as “Oloro,” a suspect already on the Command’s watchlist for criminal activities.

Police authorities said intelligence obtained from his arrest opened up critical leads that exposed the wider kidnapping syndicate.

Further investigations led to the arrest of another key suspect, Dare Oyedele, popularly known as “Solution,” who was identified as an important operational member of the gang.

Preliminary findings revealed that the syndicate had, weeks before the abduction, attempted to recruit an insider within the victim’s household through a staff member identified as Segun.

The plan was reportedly aimed at gathering information about the family’s daily routines, movements, and the schools attended by the children.

According to investigators, the gang conducted extensive surveillance on the family before eventually carrying out the abduction on June 3.

Police said intelligence exploitation and sustained operational pressure eventually led security operatives to the kidnappers’ hideout, where the victims were rescued during a tactical operation.

During the rescue mission, two members of the kidnapping gang were neutralised, while additional suspects were arrested and several exhibits recovered.

The Oyo State Police Command reiterated its commitment to combating kidnapping and other violent crimes across the state, assuring residents that security agencies remain vigilant and determined to dismantle criminal networks operating within Oyo State.

The Command also urged members of the public to continue supporting security agencies with credible information that could assist ongoing investigations and crime-fighting efforts.
