The Chairman of the Oyo State Pilgrims Welfare Board (Muslim Wing), Sheikh Hashim Atere, has announced that the state’s contingent for the 2026 Hajj will depart directly from the newly upgraded Ladoke Akintola International Airport, Ibadan.
Speaking with journalists in Ibadan, Sheikh Atere disclosed that Governor Seyi Makinde has confirmed the airport’s full readiness to handle wide-bodied aircraft, following extensive upgrades completed in recent months. According to him, all essential improvements required to guarantee safe landings and take-offs of large aircraft have now been concluded.
He highlighted that the successful landing and departure of the wide-bodied aircraft that brought President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to Ibadan for the coronation of the Olubadan of Ibadan, His Imperial Majesty Oba Rasidi Adewolu Ladoja, in September, was a clear demonstration of the airport’s enhanced capacity.
“The Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development visited the airport twice before the President’s trip and expressed satisfaction with what they saw. So, everything is set for our pilgrims to take off from the airport for the 2026 Hajj. There should be no hindrance,” he said.
Sheikh Atere expressed gratitude on behalf of the Board to Governor Makinde for his unwavering support, noting that the remarkable progress and recognition the Board continues to enjoy are direct results of the Governor’s commitment to improving religious and logistical operations in the state.
He further assured all intending pilgrims that the 2026 Hajj exercise would surpass previous years in terms of organisation, welfare, and overall coordination.
The chairman, however, appealed to intending pilgrims to meet their financial obligations without delay, stressing that the Board would not extend the December 5 deadline for payment.
