Many Shop owners at the Mokola main market Ibadan are counting their losses as a result of last night inferno caused by high power surge when electricity was restored to the Mokola area by the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company around 7pm yesterday.
Ibadan City Announcer gathered from the scene of the fire incident that some boys around the area were first to raise alarm when they noticed heavy smoke coming from some of the locked shops within the market. We also gathered that some residents of the area called IBEDC office to inform and instruct them to switch of power before the arrival of the men of the Oyo State Fire Service.
The State Fire Service men arrived promptly with two fire service trucks but unfortunately, only one of the trucks was having water while the other was empty and they could not get anywhere around the area to refill.
However, the fire service men were unable to salvage the situation as a result of the inability of their water filled truck to generate enough pressure to pump water to extinguish the raging fire. This prompted residents, sympathizers and shop owners at the Mokola Main Market to use buckets and bowls to get water from the State Fire Service truck while some brought water from nearby houses to bring the fire under control.
