A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party in Oyo State loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has elected Abdulrahman Akinoso as its state chairman.
Akinoso, a lecturer in the Department of Food Technology at the University of Ibadan, emerged during the faction’s state congress held over the weekend at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium, Oke-Ado, Ibadan.
The congress, which was conducted amid heavy security presence, reportedly commenced around 12:30 p.m. and was attended by party members and delegates from across the state.
During the exercise, members of the state executive committee emerged through an affirmation process rather than by competitive voting, a development seen as reflecting the internal alignment and consensus within the faction.
Other officers elected alongside Akinoso include Abiola Olaonipekun as Secretary, Latifah Latifu as Woman Leader, and A. Adeleke as Youth Leader.
The newly elected executives are expected to coordinate the activities and political direction of the faction in Oyo State.
