Alhaja Abosede Adedibu, the current South West Zonal Women Leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has delivered a passionate call for increased support and recognition for women in Nigerian politics, boldly accusing men of systematically sidelining female voices in leadership.
In an exclusive interview with IbadanCity ANNOUNCER, Alhaja Abosede didn’t mince words as she challenged the deep-rooted gender imbalance in Nigeria’s political landscape.
“Men should support women whenever we are going for a leadership post, because men are trying to kill us,” she declared. “Look at what is going on in Kogi State. Whenever a woman is appointed as a head, you men just try to kill us off.”
Despite facing opposition even at home, she recounted how she persisted in politics. “My husband didn’t like me doing politics—same with his children—but I insisted, and he supported me when he was alive. Today, I’m proud to say I am the South West Zonal Women Leader.”
She commended Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde for his efforts in promoting gender inclusion, noting the appointment of four female commissioners in his cabinet. “I sincerely appreciate Governor Seyi Makinde’s effort in recognizing women in politics,” she said.
Alhaja Abosede expressed unwavering support for women’s participation at the highest levels of government. “I will readily support a female governor or president anytime, regardless of which state she’s emerging from,” she affirmed.
She urged women not to cower in the face of male dominance, stressing that strength, courage, and resilience are essential. “Women should not be scared or allow men push them around. We should stand on our feet, be brave, because we are strong and can do things better.”
