Renowned sports journalist and legal expert, Abdulfatai Oyedeji, has lauded the impressive performance of Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) in the ongoing Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season. Speaking in an exclusive interview, Oyedeji, who has been a long-time observer of the club, emphasized the need for financial backing from the Oyo State government to sustain the team’s momentum.
According to Oyedeji, Shooting Stars have been enjoying an excellent season, currently occupying second place on the league table and remaining unbeaten in seven games. He believes that if the club maintains this performance, securing a continental ticket is highly possible. However, he expressed concerns about the financial resources available to the team, warning that a lack of adequate funding could derail their aspirations.

“Oyo State government must support the present management of the club because the chairman has the capability and ability to move the club forward,” Oyedeji stated. He commended the current management and players for their dedication, acknowledging their efforts in positioning 3SC as a strong contender in the league.
He further stressed the importance of financial stability in ensuring the club remains competitive, especially as the season progresses. “The moment of desperation is almost here. As the league goes on, there will be teams desperate to escape relegation and teams fighting for a continental ticket. If you’re not solid and financially capable, you will be shoved aside.”
Oyedeji, who has been involved in the football scene for decades, highlighted how motivation plays a crucial role in player performance. He noted that logistics, welfare, and other essential factors are all tied to financial resources, reinforcing the need for increased funding.
“Money is very important. I have been part of this for decades, and I know what motivation does for players. Logistics and many other things for players are crucial to improving their performance, and money is involved,” he concluded.
With Shooting Stars in a promising position, the call for government intervention echoes the concerns of fans and stakeholders eager to see the club return to continental football. As the season intensifies, financial support could be the key to ensuring that the team remains competitive and achieves its lofty ambitions.
