The Oyo State Police Command has launched an investigation into an attack on a group welcoming Alhaji Oriyomi Hamzat back to Ibadan, which left a 40-year-old man, Azeez Tajudeen, dead.
According to the police, the incident was reported on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, by Kehinde Samuel Ibikunle.
The group reportedly came under attack by suspected hoodlums shortly after leaving Molete while heading towards Iwo Road, where the Agidigbo office is located.
Tajudeen, a native of Oke Amu in Otesiwaju Local Government Area of Oyo State, sustained a severe injury to his right eye during the attack.
He was rushed for medical attention and subsequently taken to the State Hospital, Ring Road, Ibadan, where he was examined and confirmed dead. His remains have been deposited at the hospital’s morgue.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, has directed that the case be transferred to the Command Monitoring Unit for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the attack and to bring those responsible to justice.
Following the incident, the command urged political aspirants, party leaders and event organisers to notify the police formally at least 48 hours before holding any procession or public gathering.
It said advance notification would enable adequate security arrangements, help prevent breaches of the peace and protect participants and other members of the public.
The command also appealed to anyone with credible information about the attack to come forward and assist investigators.
