The Oyo State Fire Service has confirmed the recovery of the body of a 65-year-old man who fell into a deep well at Oke-Oga Atipe, Idi-Aga, in Ibadan on Thursday morning.
The incident was disclosed in a statement issued by the Special Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde on Fire Reform and Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Moroof Akinwande.
According to Akinwande, the distress call was received at exactly 9:42 a.m. on Thursday, December 4, 2025. The caller, identified as Mr. Damola, reported that an elderly man had accidentally fallen into the well at the residential area.
“Our officers, led by Assistant Chief Fire Superintendent Bamidele Samsudeen, were immediately dispatched to the scene,” he said. “Upon arrival, they discovered that a man, approximately 65 years old, had fallen into the well. His body was later recovered and handed over to a team of policemen led by SP Idowu from the Agugu Police Division.”
Akinwande described the incident as deeply unfortunate, stressing the need for residents to remain cautious and prioritize safety within their surroundings.
He urged the public to pay close attention to both physical and mental well-being, noting that distress or negligence can lead to avoidable tragedies. He further reiterated the importance of fire safety, including equipping homes and public facilities with fire extinguishers, particularly as the state enters the dry season.
The chairman also called on residents to report emergencies promptly and ensure that hazardous areas such as wells, open pits, and abandoned structures are secured to prevent similar occurrences.
