Oyo State Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Professor Daud Sangodoyin, has affirmed his commitment to consolidating the existing policies of Governor Seyi Makinde, declaring his intention to contest the Oyo State governorship election.
Speaking during a radio programme, Sangodoyin said he had completed the necessary screening process and submitted his expression of interest to run for the state’s top office.
He expressed confidence in succeeding Makinde after his tenure, citing his academic excellence and leadership experience during a radio programme.
“I am the best because I am a unique blend of academic excellence and astute leadership background. I have gained a lot from the Omi-tuntun 1.0 and 2.0; I have learnt much from the GSM school of politics, and I believe in the Omi-Tuntun 3.0, I should be an authority,” he said.
He traced his political roots within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to 1999, noting that he was actively involved at the ward level in Yemetu, including contributing financially to party activities and attending meetings held at the residence of former governor Rasheed Ladoja.
“I am a card-carrying member of the PDP since 1999. I was one of the financiers of the party at my ward in Yemetu when we used to hold meetings at Baba Ladoja’s house.”
The professor explained that his long-standing involvement in the party was not widely known due to his focus on an academic career, which he said saw him rise to the rank of professor and gain international recognition in the field of statistics.
Highlighting his credentials, Sangodoyin noted that he had travelled extensively and made significant academic contributions, including being among the few Africans to contribute to the Encyclopedia of Statistical Sciences, as well as becoming the first individual to be promoted to the rank of professor at the University of Botswana.
He further pointed to his experience in public service, having served in key ministries such as Education, Establishment, Works, and currently Energy. He cited infrastructure development, including the construction of 368 kilometres of roads during his tenure in the Ministry of Works, as part of his achievements in office.
Sangodoyin added that he has developed a roadmap for the state’s development between 2027 and 2031, aimed at consolidating on the current administration’s achievements and accelerating progress.
“I have a roadmap for the development of Oyo State from 2027 to 2031, as I believe we need to build on what we have now in 2.0 to accelerate progress in 3.0. So I am the one to continue the GSM legacy,” he said.
He promised to sustain the legacy of the present administration if elected governor.
