Former Oyo State House of Assembly aspirant, Hon. Balogun Danjuma Danjo, has taken a swipe at Nigeria’s Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, questioning his leadership approach and communication strategy ahead of the 2027 governorship race in Oyo State.
In an exclusive conversation with IbadanCity Announcer, Danjo described Adelabu as his least preferred among the state’s potential 2027 governorship contenders, arguing that the minister’s frequent public statements have not been matched with tangible achievements in office.
According to him, Adelabu’s position as Minister of Power presented a perfect opportunity to prove capacity and demonstrate visible impact, but the expected results have yet to materialize. Danjo said that while Adelabu’s credentials as a first-class graduate and accomplished professional are impressive, leadership in public office demands measurable outcomes and strategic communication.
He further criticized what he called Adelabu’s overexposure in the media, suggesting that his frequent public comments often backfire. Danjo noted that effective communication in politics is not about talking often, but speaking with purpose and timing. He added that not every politician is naturally gifted with oratory, but those who are not must learn restraint and precision in their messaging.
Citing examples from past and current leaders, Danjo referenced President Bola Tinubu’s disciplined communication strategy during his campaign years — a method he said was built on silence, strategy, and surprise rather than constant commentary. He contrasted this with Adelabu’s tendency to speak impulsively, which, in his view, weakens his political brand.
Danjo also faulted Adelabu’s recent ₦12.5 million donation to the media, describing it as “roadside politics” that could easily be misinterpreted as an attempt to buy influence. He warned that such gestures can create unnecessary controversies and cast doubt on genuine relationships between politicians and the press.
Despite his criticisms, Danjo acknowledged Adelabu’s intelligence and political potential, admitting that the minister remains one of the strongest contenders for the 2027 Oyo governorship ticket. However, he maintained that Adelabu must focus on performance within the power ministry and adopt a more disciplined public relations strategy to gain public trust.
In the same conversation, Danjo named Beulah Adeoye of the PDP and Akin Alabi of the APC as his preferred choices among likely aspirants, describing them as pragmatic and goal-driven politicians who understand the dynamics of governance.
