President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep sympathy with British-Nigerian boxing star, Anthony Joshua, following a tragic road traffic accident on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway that claimed two lives and left the sportsman injured.
In a message shared on his official Facebook page, the President described the incident as a painful tragedy that has cast “a deep shadow on this season,” noting that the loss of lives and injuries sustained had saddened the nation.
“AJ, I extend my deep sympathies to you following the tragic accident on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, which claimed two precious lives and caused you injuries. This immense tragedy casts a deep shadow on this season,” Tinubu wrote.
The President also commiserated with Joshua and his family, acknowledging the emotional burden associated with such a devastating incident and urging strength in the face of loss.
“I sympathise with you and your family as you bear the emotional weight of this unfortunate incident,” he said, while praising Joshua’s character and contributions to national pride through sports.
Tinubu described the former heavyweight champion as a symbol of courage, discipline and patriotism, noting that these qualities have endeared him to Nigerians at home and in the diaspora.
The President further called on Nigerians to stand together in moments of grief, emphasising the importance of unity, compassion and mutual support during periods of national and personal tragedy.
