Tinubu Gave Me Green Light to Contest — Adelabu Declares

Former Minister and governorship hopeful, Adebayo Adelabu, has declared that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu gave him the approval to pursue the Oyo governorship ambition ahead of the 2027 elections.

Addressing members of the All Progressives Congress in Oyo State, Adelabu said the President encouraged him to begin consultations and preparations immediately, while also emphasizing the need for unity within the party.

According to Adelabu, President Tinubu expressed support for a consensus arrangement among aspirants but did not officially endorse any particular candidate at this stage.

“President Tinubu gave me the green light to contest in Oyo and promised to facilitate a consensus. However, he has not endorsed a specific candidate yet. He said if consensus fails, he will call for a direct primary,” Adelabu stated.

The former deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria further described himself as the “true political son” of the President in Oyo State politics.

“Make no mistake, I am the only true son of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Oyo State,” he declared.

Adelabu also revealed details of a recent private meeting with the President, saying Tinubu personally advised him to resign from office and fully focus on his governorship ambition.

“So I went to see the President last week to discuss this further, and I know that the first masquerade that dances first shall win. He told me himself that I should resign and start the journey of becoming Governor of Oyo immediately. The President said so, and I cannot lie because he said it,” Adelabu added.
