Former First Lady of Oyo State, Mrs. Florence Ajimobi, has been appointed as Nigeria’s Ambassador to Austria following the approval of ambassadorial postings by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The appointment was contained in a State House press statement signed by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, announcing the posting of newly confirmed ambassadors to various countries and international missions.
According to the statement, President Tinubu approved the posting of 31 career ambassadors and 34 non-career ambassadors to different diplomatic missions across the world and the United Nations. The ambassadors-designate had earlier been confirmed by the Senate in December.
Mrs. Ajimobi, who was nominated as a non-career ambassador, was assigned to Austria as Nigeria’s representative.
The list of non-career ambassadors also includes several prominent Nigerians posted to different countries. Among them are Senator Grace Bent to Togo, Senator Ita Enang to South Africa, Reno Omokri to Mexico, Femi Fani-Kayode to Germany, Jimoh Ibrahim as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, and Prof. Isaac Adewole to Canada.
The Presidency also announced the deployment of 34 career ambassadors and high commissioners to missions across Africa, Europe, Asia and the Americas.
According to the State House, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already received agrément from the United Kingdom for the High Commissioner-designate, Ambassador Aminu Dalhatu, and from France for Ambassador Ayo Oke.
The ministry has also communicated the nominations of the other envoys to their respective host countries and requested diplomatic approval, known as agrément, in line with international diplomatic practice.
President Tinubu has directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to immediately begin the induction programme for the ambassadors-designate and high commissioners ahead of their official deployment to their various missions.
Mrs. Florence Ajimobi is the widow of former Oyo State Governor, the late Senator Abiola Ajimobi, who served as governor of the state from 2011 to 2019.
