The newly inaugurated Ibadan Bus Terminal located on Iwo Road has sparked a flurry of reactions from the public, with some praising the development while others criticize its execution. Olubunmi Olasunkanmi, a resident, expressed a mix of appreciation and concern, stating, “Its a nice development and a growth to this state. But the question is are people going to maintain this standard of orderliness and the structures?”
Olasunkanmi also highlighted the need for better annotation of parks within the terminal, citing her personal experience of ending up in Terminal 2 instead of Terminal 1, where her park was located. “So people going to their location can easily know where their parks are. For instance I’m going to academy today I found myself in terminal 2 and their parks is at terminal 1. I had to trek and ask before I finally get the park.”
Another concern raised by Olasunkanmi was the presence of elevators in both terminals, questioning the necessity of these features considering the maintenance cost. “Also I noticed an elevator in both terminals is there a need for that. Consider the maintenance cost of each.”
Wale Otun, another resident, expressed skepticism about the terminal, saying, “Is this what they are jubilation on? Some useless project, turns to carnival and commissions… looks like someone’s bus is finally leaving the terminal 🚍“. His comment suggests that the terminal may not be as beneficial as intended.
Olabisi Ishola shared a similar sentiment, warning that the terminal should not follow the example of Ojoo Terminal, which she described as having poor facilities and maintenance. “It’s a welcome project, but it should not be like the ojoo terminal whereby the seats in the reception is turned to sleeping beds for drivers and agberos. Most of the seats are broken. The toilet facilities is an error. So dirty and unkempt.”
Ishola further emphasized the need for proper management of the terminal, stating, “Money collected are not used for the purpose. The place smells terribly. They can’t buy disinfectant or hypo to mop the floor. Water is not available. This one should not be like that.”
Jimoh Alawode expressed concern about the potential for drivers to extort passengers, citing the high cost of taking a cab from Iwo Road to Oorunsogo. “It a way of extorting masses by the drivers because the cost of taking a cab there is too high than before, imagin take a cab from Iwo road to Oorunsogo at the rate of #500, #200 difference.”
Another resident simply stated, “Misplace priorities, project that will lacks competent managers,” highlighting concerns about the terminal’s management.
Akinsola, another commuter, pleaded for fare reduction and better management of the terminal, saying, “Commuterrs are suffering. Please tell those greedy Nigerian not to increase fare, in fact they should reduce it. Also, crowd too much. I don’t pray for bad thing. Terrorist or natural disasters should be put into focus.”
Akins” request for security presence to manage the terminal was echoed by many, emphasizing the need for better security measures.
Overall, while the Ibadan Bus Terminal at Iwo Road is seen as a positive development, the public has expressed concerns about maintenance, management, and the need for better facilities and security.
