The youth wing of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State has asked Governor Seyi Makinde to begin preparing his handover note ahead of the 2027 governorship election, insisting that residents are yearning for fresh leadership, improved security, development, accountability, and purposeful governance.
The declaration was made during a media briefing held at the APC Secretariat in Oke-Ado, Ibadan, ahead of the forthcoming Oyo APC Youth Summit.
Addressing journalists, the State APC Youth Leader, Comrade John Aremu, said the party’s youth constituency is prepared to lead what he described as a “political liberation movement” that will return the APC to power in 2027.
Aremu accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)-led administration under Governor Makinde of subjecting the state to “bondage” and claimed that the ruling party should start preparing for its “send-off.”
“We are sending a loud and unmistakable signal to the PDP: APC is coming. The youths are rising. The movement has started,” he declared.
He stressed that Oyo State was ready for a leadership driven by competence, vibrancy, and progressive young leaders who understand the needs of the people.
Aremu noted that the recent reconciliation between former Senate Leader, Senator Teslim Folarin, and the Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, signaled renewed unity within the APC and strengthened the party’s prospects for the 2027 polls.
“We know what caused our defeat in the past, and we are rebuilding. There is no division in the APC today. All our gladiators are returning in unity. That’s our strength heading into 2027,” he said.
Speaking on the upcoming APC Youth Summit, Aremu explained that the event is designed to strengthen internal party structures, deepen progressive ideology, and chart a new direction for young stakeholders across the state.
The summit, centred on unity, will bring together young progressives from all local governments, zones, and interest groups, ensuring no youth is sidelined in the party’s political future.
According to him, the summit will enable self-evaluation, honest dialogue, and strategic planning ahead of the election cycle.
“We must assess our strengths, weaknesses, and the gaps between leadership and the youth constituency, not to assign blame, but to chart a clearer progressive path forward,” he said.
Aremu disclosed that the summit will unveil a strategic youth-driven roadmap focusing on political mobilisation, grassroots engagement, digital advocacy, community impact programmes, and issues-based campaigns.
“2026 is not far. The future of Oyo State must be planned today. This generation of APC youths is not just prepared for the future, we are ready to lead it,” he added.
Aremu concluded by highlighting the APC youth wing’s commitment to discipline and respect for party structures.
“Progressivism is built on discipline and loyalty. No party succeeds with indiscipline, and no youth structure thrives without order. We will continue to champion responsible leadership among our members.”
