The Oyo State Police Command has arrested no fewer than 16 suspected members of the Aiye Confraternity during a coordinated operation at The Polytechnic Ibadan, following intelligence reports of a planned gathering within the institution.
The operation, carried out on Tuesday, April 29, 2026, was aimed at preventing a potential breach of peace, according to the police.
Sources within the Command disclosed that credible intelligence had revealed plans by members of the notorious cult group to hold a strategic meeting at a location described as their “temple” within the campus.
Acting on the information, the Commissioner of Police, Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, personally led a team of operatives to the identified venue after obtaining necessary approval from the school authorities.
The police said the operation was executed with precision, leading to the arrest of 16 suspects, including 14 males and two females, at and around the scene.
Preliminary investigations indicate that some of the arrested individuals were already on the Command’s watchlist for alleged involvement in murder cases and cult-related activities across the state.
Items recovered from the suspects include two locally made cut-to-size guns, two English pistols, 16 live cartridges, four axes, and assorted charms.
The police added that investigations are ongoing to uncover the full extent of the suspects’ activities, while efforts are being intensified to apprehend other accomplices who reportedly fled the scene.
The Command reiterated its commitment to tackling cultism and violent crimes in Oyo State, assuring residents of sustained efforts to maintain law and order.
Residents were also urged to remain vigilant and continue to provide useful information to security agencies to aid ongoing operations.
