The Zonal Head of the Special Control Unit Against Money Laundering (SCUML), Mrs. Toyin Benson, has revealed that the Oyo State real estate sector has achieved 85 percent compliance with the provisions of the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act 2022, describing the progress as commendable and worthy of emulation.
Benson made this known while delivering her speech at the Oyo State Real Estate Conference, held on Wednesday, November 2025, at Jorgot Center, Ibadan. The conference, themed “Real Estate and Economic Development in Oyo State: Strategies for Success,” brought together key government officials, investors, and industry professionals to discuss best practices for sustainable and transparent real estate development.
According to the EFCC representative, the real estate sector remains a vital driver of Oyo State’s financial growth, but it must continue to uphold integrity and accountability to maintain its positive impact on the economy and national security.
“No doubt, real estate has improved the financial stability of the state. Stakeholders should continue to uphold transparency, accountability, and compliance with the provisions of the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act 2022,” Benson said.
She praised the Oyo State Government for fostering collaboration among public agencies, investors, and professionals in the housing sector, noting that such partnerships help strengthen regulation and promote ethical practices.
“We commend the Oyo State Government for providing a platform to encourage partnership among government, investors, and professionals. We should build a real estate sector that not only improves economic stability but also upholds integrity and national security,” she added.
Benson urged all real estate practitioners in the state to register their businesses with SCUML and ensure full compliance with anti-money laundering provisions to prevent the misuse of real estate transactions for illicit financial activities.
“In Oyo State, we have 85 percent compliance. I’m proud of that, and I want you to keep up the good work,” she concluded.
