The Chief Whip of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Gbenga Oyekola, has dismissed claims linking him to moves aimed at causing disunity between the Assembly and Governor Seyi Makinde, reaffirming his unwavering loyalty to the state government.
Oyekola made this clear in a public statement following a meeting of lawmakers held at the Governor’s House, where concerns were raised about supposed attempts by certain individuals to pit the Assembly against the government.
The honourable member representing Atiba constituency revealed that the Speaker of the House, Adebo Ogundoyin, was approached concerning his alleged governorship ambition. He stated he was invited by the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, who purportedly advised him and offered support, including a House of Representatives ticket under the APC and funding for the election campaign, but he declined.

Oyekola added that the speaker was also contacted by a former First Lady of the state, Florence Ajimobi, regarding the same matter, but he rejected any offers of financial inducement.
He stated he was neither involved nor consulted in any such meetings or arrangements, emphasising that he would not participate in anything that could disturb the peace of the state.
“I was never invited, never consulted, and was not part of any such arrangement. I cannot and will not be disloyal to my boss,” he affirmed.
Meanwhile, several other honourable members of the Assembly have also distanced themselves from the alleged plot, denying any involvement in actions that could cause division within the legislature or between the Assembly and the executive.
This development is viewed as a move by lawmakers to reduce rising political tensions and to reaffirm unity within the ruling structure of the state. Political observers note that the public denial and display of loyalty may aim to strengthen the relationship between the legislature and the executive, while dispelling rumours of internal fractures ahead of future political shifts.
The lawmaker reiterated his support for Governor Makinde, pledging continued loyalty to his administration and dedication to the unity, peace, and progress of Oyo State.
