Oyo Govt Raises Alarm, Urges Border Communities to Heighten Vigilance Amid Security Concerns

Valentine’s Day: Oyo Government Issues Stern Warning to Corporate bodies, Event planners, Others

The Oyo State Government has issued a fresh security alert, calling on residents—especially those living in border communities—to remain vigilant and actively support security agencies with credible intelligence that can help prevent crime and respond swiftly to emerging threats.

The warning was delivered by the Special Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde on Homeland Security, Assistant Comptroller General of Immigration (Rtd.) Segun Adegoke, during a series of strategic engagements with security stakeholders across the Oke Ogun and Ibarapa zones.

Adegoke, who led the government delegation, met with local government chairmen, farmers, Fulani herders and various community leaders, stressing the urgent need for grassroots participation in combating violent extremism. He noted that the sensitisation tour was part of Governor Makinde’s broader security framework, which prioritises collaboration with local communities and the strengthening of alternative dispute resolution mechanisms to prevent conflict escalation.

He emphasized that residents must promptly report any suspicious movement or activity via the state’s toll-free emergency line, 615, to ensure timely intervention by security operatives.

During the interactive sessions, security stakeholders expressed deep concerns over the increasing vulnerability of border communities, particularly the ease with which unprofiled and potentially dangerous migrants gain entry into the state. They warned that the porous nature of these borders continues to pose significant security risks that require sustained government and community action.

Adegoke assured residents that the state government remains committed to reinforcing security architecture across all vulnerable areas while deepening partnerships with community structures to maintain peace and stability.
