The Oyo State Government has upgraded its mapping system to improve the implementation of its 50 per cent subsidized tractor service programme aimed at supporting farmers across the state. The initiative is expected to enhance transparency, ensure fair distribution of services, and boost agricultural productivity.
The Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Olasunkanmi Olaleye, disclosed this on Wednesday in Ibadan during the opening of a three-day training workshop for 116 extension agents and monitoring officers drawn from the 33 local government areas and 29 local council development areas in the state.
Olaleye explained that the newly improved mapping application was designed to accurately identify farm locations, prevent duplication of beneficiaries, and ensure that subsidised tractor services reach farmers who genuinely need them. According to him, the system will help streamline the programme and improve monitoring of agricultural support services.
He noted that the training workshop was organised to equip extension agents and monitoring officers with the technical knowledge and practical skills required to effectively utilise the upgraded mapping application. He added that the officers play a crucial role in delivering agricultural services and ensuring that government interventions reach farmers at the grassroots.
The commissioner reiterated that agriculture remains a key pillar of the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde, stressing that the state government remains committed to increasing food production and strengthening agricultural mechanisation to support farmers and improve the state’s economy.
