Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State have adopted a zoning arrangement for the selection of members of the party’s State Executive Committee ahead of the state congress scheduled for Tuesday.
The decision was taken at a stakeholders’ meeting held at the party’s state secretariat in Ibadan, where members also ratified and inaugurated an ad hoc zoning committee to supervise the process.
In a statement issued by the State Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare, the party disclosed that the committee would allocate available positions in the State Executive Committee among the 33 Local Government Area (LGA) chapters across the state.
The zoning committee is chaired by Alhaji Fatai Ibikunle, with Afeez Bolaji serving as secretary. Other members include Idris Adeoye, Adesoji Adedeji, Ajiboye Sangogade and Akeem Olatunji.
Sadare explained that the adoption of the zoning formula is in line with directives from the party’s national leadership and reflects the consensus approach earlier employed during the ward and local government congresses.
According to him, the Ibikunle-led committee has already commenced work and is expected to communicate the distribution of positions to each local government chapter within hours. Upon receiving their allocations, stakeholders at the LGA level are to meet and submit names of nominees for screening by a special team from Abuja.
The party’s spokesperson urged leaders across the 33 LGAs to nominate credible and competent candidates, emphasizing that only individuals with capacity and commitment should be considered for key leadership roles.
He expressed optimism that both the nomination and screening processes would be concluded within the stipulated time frame, ahead of the inauguration of the new state executives at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium on Tuesday.
The party also called on members and stakeholders to sustain unity and cooperation to ensure a hitch-free congress.
Sadare commended party faithful for maintaining peace and cohesion in recent times, urging them to consolidate on the gains as preparations intensify for the 2027 general elections.
