The Oyo State Government under the leadership of H.E Seyi Makinde bids farewell to the 42nd Olubadan of Ibadanland, who joined his ancestors on 15 March 2024.
The state burial ceremony was held at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium (former Liberty Stadium), Oke-Ado, Ibadan.

Dignitaries from all walks of life were in attendance to grace the occasion,some of which were His Excellency Governor Seyi Makinde, His Excellency The Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Barrister Abdulraheem Adebayo Lawal,His Excellency, Ambassador Oladejo Taofeek Arapaja,Her Excellency, Alhaja Mutiat Ladoja,His Excellency, Alhaji Hazeem Gbolarumi, His Excellency, Engr. Speaking at the event,Makinde eulogized the departed king as ever vibrant and participatory “I want to once again thank you all. To the family, it is we all that lost Baba, but we take solace in the fact that Baba lived a fulfilled and eventful life”

He also noted that the state had succeeded in amending the chieftaincy Law last year May through the House of Assembly, which empowers the state governor to officiate the enthronement of monarchs successfully.
The Governor maintained that he would perform the enthronement process of the new Olubadan, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, having followed due process through recommendation as soon as the new Olubadan is confirmed strong for the coronation.
Makinde in his words said, “Have seen the recommendation of Olubadan in council and I have accepted it, and we will as soon as Oba Olakulehin is medically fit, he will be enthroned because due process has been followed.”
“Myself and the House of Assembly on 26th Friday May 2023, we amended the chieftaincy law of Oyo state, so that the governor will not need to meet with the council of chiefs for amendment of declaration of the traditional rulers and myself and the late Olubadan, Oba Mohood Olalekan Balogun we amended the Ibadan chieftaincy declaration.”
Those who don’t want us to celebrate Baba, Late Olubadan were the one that sent the rain.” Governor Makinde said.
Earlier,the Babakekere and Former Oyo South senator, kola Balogun credited the Seyi Makinde led administration for honouring his family and late elder brother.
Meanwhile,the secretary to the state government, Professor Olanike Adeyemo described the late Olubadan as dedicated, and the most intelligent personality in his days.
