A tragic multiple motor and pedestrian accident has claimed the lives of two persons and left several others injured at Soka Junction, along the busy Ibadan–Lagos Expressway. The incident occurred late Saturday night, April 4, 2026, at about 10:10 p.m., sending shockwaves through residents and road users in the area.
According to the Oyo State Police Command, the crash involved multiple vehicles, including a Toyota Venza and a BMW, all of which sustained significant damage. Eyewitness accounts described a chaotic scene as emergency responders rushed to assist victims and clear the wreckage from the road.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the accident was caused by a white HOWO truck with registration number Gombe GEM696XE, driven by one Abdullahi Bashiru. The driver reportedly lost control due to reckless driving and excessive speed, plowing into other vehicles and unsuspecting pedestrians.
The Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, expressed deep sympathy to the families of the deceased and wished those injured a speedy recovery. He assured the public that a comprehensive investigation is underway to determine the full circumstances surrounding the crash and to ensure accountability.
The Police Command has urged motorists to strictly adhere to traffic rules and avoid dangerous driving habits, particularly overspeeding.
