Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, has assured political parties of access to public facilities in the state, provided they meet the established conditions for their use.
The assurance followed concerns over the All Progressives Congress’s proposed use of Mapo Hall, Ibadan, for its presidential campaign.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media, Dr Sulaimon Olanrewaju, the governor said public facilities belong to the people of Oyo State and should be administered fairly, transparently and without partisan considerations.
Makinde maintained that his administration would not deny any political party access to government-owned facilities on account of its political affiliation.
He reaffirmed his commitment to fairness, inclusiveness and democratic principles, saying all political stakeholders should have an equal opportunity to reach voters within the law.
The governor, however, noted that access to public facilities is subject to established rules and procedures governing their use, maintenance and public order.
According to the statement, any political party or organisation that fulfils those requirements should be allowed access without discrimination or unfair restrictions.
Makinde reiterated that his administration would maintain a level playing field for political activities across the state.
