Prominent members of the Osun State Caucus in the House of Representatives have launched a scathing attack on Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, accusing him of political brigandage and meddling in Osun’s internal affairs.
In a strongly worded statement jointly issued on Wednesday by six federal lawmakers elected on the platform of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP)—Rep. Bamidele Salam, Hon. Mudashiru Lukman Alani, Hon. Akanni Clement Ademola, Hon. Adewale Moruf Adebayo, Hon. Adetunji Abidemi Olusoji, and Hon. Oladebo Lanre Omoleye—the caucus formally disowned the purported PDP governorship primaries allegedly conducted in Osun State under Governor Makinde’s influence.
The lawmakers expressed deep disappointment in the Oyo governor, accusing him of orchestrating a “purported governorship primaries” with “thugs and political jobbers” allegedly imported from Ibadan. They warned that such actions threaten the peace and political stability of Osun State.
According to the caucus, the alleged attempt to impose a candidate portrays Governor Makinde as “a treacherous character” whose desperation for regional political dominance has pushed him into “untoward conducts.”
They insisted that the PDP has clear, established procedures for organising primaries—including the election of ward ad-hoc and national delegates—and warned that no valid primaries can take place without following due process.
“We unequivocally reject the fraudulent conduct of a purported primary which threw up one Adebayo Adedamola Fryo as the PDP candidate for the 2026 elections,” the lawmakers stated. They further cautioned Fryo against parading himself as the party’s candidate, warning that such action would amount to “criminal impersonation” and could provoke peaceful party members in the state.
Reflecting on what they described as weeks of “avoidable mess” caused by Makinde’s “blind ambition and political immaturity,” the caucus invoked a Yoruba proverb: “A man accused of being a thief does not go near the villagers’ chickens pretending to be dancing in the nighttime.” They advised the governor to desist from validating widespread accusations that he is a “serial traitor and power-monger.”
The statement further condemned what they termed the governor’s attempt to export “impunity, recklessness and sham” to Osun State, stressing that Osun already has “a decent sitting Governor who carries everyone along in major decision-making.”
Reiterating their roles as party leaders and national stakeholders, the lawmakers affirmed their commitment to upholding the Nigerian Constitution and the Electoral Act. They called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to “discard the phoney results” of the purported primaries and ensure strict adherence to the PDP Constitution and the Electoral Act in selecting candidates.
The Osun Caucus concluded by urging Governor Makinde to immediately withdraw from any activities that could escalate tensions or disrupt the political climate of Osun State.
