The Oyo State Government has approved the elevation of three prominent high chiefs in Ibadanland to wear beaded crowns, in a move seen as significant for the preservation of traditional hierarchy and cultural continuity.
This was disclosed in an official correspondence dated March 26, 2026, addressed to the Olubadan of Ibadanland.
According to the letter signed by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Aderbola Ojo, the chiefs approved for elevation are: High Chief Akeem Bolaji Adewoyin (Ekerin Olubadan), High Chief Sarafadeen Abiodun Alli (Ekarun Balogun), High Chief Kola Daisi (Ekarun Olubadan)
The ministry described the conferment of beaded crowns on the chiefs as both “traditionally necessary and very essential” at this time, aligning with established customs within the Ibadan traditional system.
It further emphasised that the decision for immediate elevation was taken to forestall any insinuation that delays in granting the crowns were deliberate or politically influenced. The government maintained that the move is crucial to safeguarding the integrity and structure of the Ibadan traditional institution.
The coronation and beaded crown ceremony has been scheduled for Friday, April 3, 2026, and will take place at Mapo Hall.
The event is expected to attract widespread public attention, with strong royal presence and cultural significance, as Ibadanland continues to uphold its revered chieftaincy traditions.
