The recently concluded Ibadan Tech Expo marked another significant milestone for the city’s rapidly growing tech ecosystem. Held at the University of Ibadan, the event saw a remarkable turnout from tech startups, corporate sponsors, students, and enthusiasts, all eager to explore the potential of Ibadan as a tech hub.
Prominent figures such as Mr. Ayo Ajewole, popularly known as Woli Agbala, Barrister Beulah Adeoye, Hon. Akin Alabi, Mr. Seun Fakorede (EA Youths and Sports to the Oyo State Governor), CEO of Heyfood Mr. Taiwo Akinropo, and Cardify CEO Mr. Tunde Buremo graced the event, alongside other key figures in the tech community. Their presence underscored the importance of the event in shaping the future of Ibadan’s tech scene.

Mr. Balogun Danjuma, the convener of the event, expressed his vision for the expo. “We have a thriving tech ecosystem in our state with a lot of startups we are trying to push into the world. This event is about fostering collaboration, helping companies generate revenue together, connecting with policy makers, and ultimately gaining more users for their products.” His passion for developing the tech industry was evident, as he shared the event’s success, noting that 58 companies supported the expo this year, an increase from the previous edition. “People love us,” he stated proudly. “This is the biggest tech conference in the southwest.”
Despite the challenges of organizing such a large-scale event, including financial constraints, Danjuma expressed gratitude to the sponsors, highlighting the collective effort that made the expo a success.

The event’s highlights were not limited to discussions and networking alone. Attendees were rewarded with various gifts, including cash prizes, MTN routers, and laptops, adding an extra layer of excitement to the conference.
One of the major sponsors, Cardify, a leading Ibadan-based startup, sees the tech expo as aligning with its mission. According to Mr. Taiwo Idris, Cardify’s Chief Marketing Officer, “We’ve been partners since the first edition, and we saw the remarkable impact it had on the tech industry. The vision is to make Ibadan the Silicon Valley of Africa.” Cardify’s presence underscores its commitment to fostering talent, offering access to both fiat and digital currencies through its platform while working to reduce Nigeria’s unemployment rate by promoting tech education.
The event also drew support from non-tech sectors. Keisha Cakes and Pastries, for instance, participated out of a desire to engage with students, who made up the majority of the audience. “We hope to get more potential customers and expand our reach online,” said Creative Director Abdulkareem Aishat, who sees tech innovation as a valuable tool in enhancing the brand’s digital presence.

Oh Mobility, a company known for phone accessories, highlighted the importance of tech for the future. Alaka Olajide, the Operations Manager, expressed how the company’s vision aligns with the expo. “Tech is evolving, and Oh Mobility is here to ensure that everyone has access to quality gadgets, power, and mobility.” The company’s innovative products, like a power bank capable of charging laptops, address the needs of tech professionals, further cementing its role in the industry.

Another notable sponsor, Safe Net Society, the first and only cybersecurity community in Ibadan, emphasized the expo’s importance for exposure. The group’s co-lead shared how they have been hosting monthly meetups focused on cybersecurity since 2023. “We want to provide hands-on training and encourage our members to take actionable steps toward their goals,” said the community’s leader, who believes Ibadan’s tech future is bright.
The Ibadan Tech Expo 2024 has not only fostered collaboration but also highlighted the immense potential of the city’s tech landscape. With increased sponsorships, new products, and a community eager to learn and grow, the expo is undoubtedly shaping Ibadan into a significant player in Nigeria’s tech industry.
