The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has taken an early lead in the ongoing Ibadan North Federal Constituency bye-election, outpacing its closest rival, the All Progressives Congress (APC), as initial results trickling in from several polling units show a commanding performance by the ruling party in Oyo State.
Preliminary tallies across multiple wards show the PDP dominating. At Ward 1, Unit 10, the PDP secured 89 votes compared to APC’s 20. Similarly, Ward 2, Unit 14 recorded 61 votes for PDP and 30 for APC. In Yemetu’s Ward 3, Unit 19, PDP polled 82 votes while APC managed 30. Other units further cemented PDP’s lead: Ward 4, Unit 33 (PDP 8, APC 1), and Ward 7, Unit 07 (PDP 100, APC 37).
The trend extended to major institutions. At the University of Ibadan’s Tedder Hall (NW8), PDP won 28 votes, APC 9, and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) 2, with 3 ballots voided. At The Polytechnic, Ibadan, PDP posted overwhelming victories: Unit 1 (49–8), Unit 2 (57–7), and Unit 3 (6–0). At Akingbola Centre, PDP led again with 109 votes against APC’s 53.
According to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), 217,980 voters who collected their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) were eligible to vote across 512 polling units in 12 wards. As of the latest figures, results from 238 polling units (46.48%) have been uploaded to INEC’s Result Viewing Portal (IREV), with collation ongoing.
With the PDP maintaining a strong edge in early results, anticipation is building over who will ultimately emerge as the new representative of Ibadan North in the House of Representatives.
