The Oyo State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in its ongoing crackdown on criminal activities with the arrest of six suspected members of a robbery syndicate allegedly operating within Ibadan metropolis.
The Command said the suspects were apprehended during a sting operation carried out by operatives of its Monitoring Unit, following credible intelligence that a gang of suspected armed robbers, known for using tricycles to dispossess unsuspecting residents of their valuables, was hiding in a hotel around the 7UP/Academy area of Ibadan.
Acting swiftly on the information, police operatives stormed the location in a coordinated operation, leading to the arrest of six suspects.
The suspects were identified as Kelvin Daniel, 21; Idris Ramon, 25; Christopher Solomon, 35; Mohamed Telim, 21; Taored Aderibigbe, 30; and Adekunle Tolani, 27.
According to the police, several items were recovered from the suspects during the operation. The exhibits include 18 different mobile phones, one Opay ATM card, one National Identification Number card, and a tricycle with registration number OYO SHK 508 QP, said to have been used as the operational vehicle of the syndicate.
Preliminary investigation, the Command added, revealed that the suspects allegedly confessed to being members of a criminal gang involved in robbing and terrorising residents across Ibadan metropolis.
The police said investigation is still ongoing and assured members of the public that all suspects would be charged to court at the conclusion of the investigation.
The Command also commended residents for their cooperation and the timely supply of credible intelligence, noting that community support remains vital to effective policing and crime prevention.
It urged members of the public to continue providing useful and prompt information that could assist security agencies in detecting and preventing criminal activities.
The Oyo State Police Command reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property across the state, assuring residents that it would continue intensifying efforts to rid the state of criminal elements.
