Hon. Adedeji Dhikrullahi Olajide, a member of the House of Representatives, recently spearheaded a cholera sensitization campaign to combat the cholera epidemic threatening the nation, at the Challenge terminal in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The initiative focuses on educating drivers, passengers, and local residents about the severe risks associated with cholera and the essential health practices needed to prevent its spread.
Representing the Ibadan North-West/Ibadan South-West Federal Constituency, Hon. Olajide emphasized the urgency of collective action to thwart the disease, particularly given the rising cases in neighboring regions.

Oyo State has remained cholera-free since the outbreak began, and the campaign aims to maintain that status.
The Challenge terminal, a bustling transportation hub, was chosen for its high foot traffic and the associated risk of inter-state cholera transmission.
“Cholera is a deadly disease that can be prevented with proper hygiene, sanitation, and vaccination,” Olajide stated while addressing attendees.
“As a representative of the people,it is my duty to ensure that my constituents are well informed and equipped to combat this epidemic “, Odidiomo stated while addressing drivers and passengers at the terminal during the sensitization campaign.
Encouraging prompt reporting of any suspected cholera cases to local health facilities, Olajide praised the Oyo State Government and the Federal Ministry of Health for their ongoing efforts in fighting the epidemic.
He also called on terminal management to conduct community outreach to enhance awareness of personal hygiene and proper waste disposal.
Residents welcomed the campaign, with local trader Mrs. Adeola Adeyemi expressing gratitude for the initiative, highlighting the community’s need for increased education on cholera prevention.
