The just concluded 2023 Convocation at the University of Ibadan had many important dignitaries in attendance including popular Fuji musician Saheed Osupa but Mr Farouk Sanni, a 60-year-old man was the cynosure of all eyes with his age and the first class performance in his academics among other students many who are same age with his children.

Mr Sanni accomplished a significant feat by graduating with a first class degree from the Department of Sociology. In addition, he also won eight awards, including the Best Graduating Student from his department, during the ceremony.
The retired banker revealed that he took the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) along his son, who is presently studying Law in the same institution. He further noted that although it was challenging to be in class with his children’s age mates, the determination to explore human behavior, and his experience over his lifetime was a major catalyst, driving him down the academic journey.
He said: “Studying in a class where you have those who are the same age as your children can be very challenging, but I was magnanimous to accommodate what happened.
“Some called me Daddy, while some will even say, ‘he may be a daddy but he is not my father’. I experienced a lot of things but as an old person, I was able to remain focused.”
His exceptional academic achievement is an inspiring testament to the notion that learning knows no age limit – age is just a number! – resonating profoundly within the university community and beyond.
