Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has officially resumed duties after a four-week vacation, which lasted from August 5 to September 6, 2024. The governor announced his return in a statement, expressing that he is “refreshed and ready” to continue working for the people of Oyo State.
During his absence, Deputy Governor Bayo Lawal was charged with overseeing state affairs, ensuring a smooth transition of responsibilities. Governor Makinde will formally resume office on Monday, September 9, 2024.
The governor, in his statement, acknowledged the pressing economic challenges facing the state, particularly the recent hike in fuel prices. He reassured the public that his administration is prioritizing decisions that will mitigate the impact of the fuel price increase on Oyo State’s economy and its residents. “We have some pending decisions to take, especially with the recent increase in fuel price. Rest assured that whatever decisions we take will be in the best interests of our people and the Oyo State economy,” Governor Makinde stated.
Looking ahead, Governor Makinde shared insights into his administration’s focus on boosting key sectors, including agribusiness and tourism. He revealed that several high-impact projects in these sectors are scheduled to be flagged off and commissioned in October 2024. These initiatives are expected to generate jobs, enhance economic diversification, and strengthen the state’s revenue base.
In addition to these plans, Governor Makinde emphasized his commitment to tackling the state’s pressing issues. In his latest newsletter to residents, he reaffirmed his dedication to addressing the fuel price hike, promising that his government will take actions that benefit the people of Oyo State. The governor concluded with a message of optimism, saying, “May we never lose real hope,” as he pledged to keep the public informed on his administration’s activities and decisions in the coming weeks.
Governor Makinde’s return is seen as a critical moment for the state as it navigates economic challenges while also preparing for significant developmental strides under his leadership.
