The ancient city of Ibadan was agog yesterday as popular media entrepreneur and activist, Mr Oriyomi Hamzat, formally joined the Accord Party and declared his intention to contest the forthcoming Oyo State governorship election.
Speaking before a mammoth crowd at the Obafemi Awolowo (Liberty) Stadium, Hamzat read from his formal declaration, making it clear that his political journey had entered a new phase. He stated that he would no longer mobilise crowds or campaign for other politicians, but would instead present himself to the people as a candidate seeking to govern Oyo State on the platform of the Accord Party.
Hamzat’s declaration was greeted with loud cheers from supporters, many of whom described his entry into the race as a bold challenge to the existing political order in the state. The event further reinforced Accord’s growing visibility as a potential third force in Oyo politics ahead of the 2027 elections.
