One of the Oyo State governorship aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ambassador Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo, has declared that his entry into politics is divinely inspired, expressing confidence in emerging as the state’s next governor.
Ajadi made the remarks while featuring on a political radio programme, “Political Circuit,” on Fresh FM, where he outlined his political journey, ambitions, and development plans for Oyo State.
He stated that his political ambition was borne out of what he described as a divine calling, revealed through a man who conveyed a message that Oyo State requires a “genuine son of the soil” to succeed Governor Seyi Makinde. According to him, the messenger also pledged to mobilise influential personalities in the state in support of his ambition.
He disclosed that he began active politics in 2015 and initially pursued the highest office in the land as a presidential aspirant, with campaign banners displayed across the 36 states of Nigeria, before eventually joining the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP).
Ajadi noted that his current governorship ambition in Oyo State is deliberate, as reflected in the widespread visibility of his campaign banners across the state. He added that he intends to use Oyo as a model to showcase his leadership capacity ahead of a future presidential bid.
Speaking on his motivation, the PDP chieftain said his entry into politics is driven by a desire to contribute meaningfully to the development of the people, stressing that he has built strong grassroots connections across all 33 local government areas of the state.
“I adhered to all necessary political structures upon returning to Oyo State. I have engaged party stakeholders and leaders while familiarising myself with the party’s system,” he said.
Addressing the issue of his previous governorship contest in Ogun state, Ajadi revealed that he is an indigene of Ibadan from Agunbiade Compound at Oja’Gbo, stressing that his previous governorship bid in Ogun State was influenced by his maternal lineage.
He explained that party stakeholders in Ogun state persuaded him to accept the ticket, where he contested against Governor Dapo Abiodun, although he admitted he did not fully commit to the campaign.
Highlighting his philanthropic activities, Ajadi said he has facilitated scholarships for 10,000 Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) candidates, noting that his humanitarian efforts are not politically motivated but aimed at improving the welfare of the masses.
He expressed optimism about securing the PDP governorship ticket, maintaining that he remains loyal to the party and Governor Makinde regardless of the outcome of the primary election.
Ajadi emphasised that competence, rather than zoning or religious considerations, should determine the choice of a candidate for the governorship ticket.
He also described Governor Makinde as an exceptional leader and pledged to build on his legacy. He further unveiled key components of his proposed agenda, including “Operation No Potholes,” infrastructure development, improved transportation systems, provision of modern facilities, affordable housing, and standard education.
Ajadi added that he is the chairman of Bullion Golden Global Limited, with business interests spanning manufacturing, real estate, music and sports promotion, hospitality, and finance.
