There is renewed optimism among residents and motorists plying the Ibadan–Ife–Ilesa Expressway following confirmation that the Federal Government has re-awarded the long-awaited reconstruction project to CBC Global Civil & Building Construction Nigeria Limited.
Hon. Akin Alabi, Member of the House of Representatives representing Egbeda/Ona-Ara Federal Constituency, made this known on Wednesday in an official update. According to him, the new development follows the termination of the previous contract with Kopek Construction Company due to what he described as “unsatisfactory progress” on the project.
Alabi noted that while the section stretching from Iwo Road to Asejire remains a major concern for residents within his constituency, the Federal Government considers the Ibadan–Ife–Ilesa Expressway as a unified project rather than one divided by state or constituency boundaries.
The lawmaker further revealed that CBC Global, the new contractor, is a reputable multinational construction firm with a proven record of delivering large-scale infrastructure projects across Nigeria and Africa. The company will adopt concrete pavement technology, a modern and durable construction approach designed to extend the road’s lifespan for up to 50 years without major rehabilitation.
“Work is expected to commence from the Osun State end of the expressway,” Alabi stated. “However, I am in active discussions with the contractor to carry out palliative works on the most deteriorated and dangerous sections within our constituency to provide immediate relief to road users. This will commence as soon as possible.”
Hon. Alabi expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for prioritizing the project and demonstrating commitment to revamping critical federal infrastructure nationwide.
He assured constituents that he would continue to provide timely updates as the project progresses and reaffirmed his dedication to ensuring that the people of Egbeda/Ona Ara Federal Constituency benefit fully from the Federal Government’s infrastructure renewal efforts.
“I thank everyone for their patience and understanding. Please be assured of my highest regards,” he concluded.
The Ibadan–Ife–Ilesa Expressway remains one of the Southwest’s busiest routes, linking Oyo, Osun, and Ondo States, and serving as a major commercial artery for the movement of goods and people across the region.
