Tragedy struck the Iwo Road area of Ibadan on Sunday when a targeted shooting claimed the life of Kanu, reportedly a leader within a local cult group.
Eyewitnesses recounted a chilling scene where an assailant came down from a “micra” cab and fatally shot Kanu outside Omoleye, a popular phone and accessories shop.

The incident has shaken the community, igniting fears of heightened violence between rival cult groups, notably the Axe Confraternity, known for its history of violent clashes and territorial disputes, particularly on the significant date of July 7th (7/7).
“It was horrifying to witness. The man was gunned down in broad daylight. We’re all anxious about what this could mean for our safety,” shared a local resident who witnessed the shooting.
Concerns are mounting that Kanu’s associates may retaliate, potentially triggering a cycle of violence and further bloodshed.
Residents are on edge, calling for immediate police intervention to prevent escalating tensions.
“The city is tense. We fear this could spark a wave of attacks between rival groups.
Authorities must act swiftly to restore calm and ensure our safety,” urged a community leader, highlighting the urgent need for measures to maintain peace in Ibadan amidst the growing unease.
