Former member of the House of Representatives, Dapo Lam-Adesina, has called on the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State to strategically leverage the policies and reforms of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to reclaim power in the state during the 2027 governorship election.
Lam-Adesina stated that the party must reposition itself politically and strengthen its grassroots base, stressing that the APC cannot afford to remain in opposition in Oyo State beyond 2027.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the former lawmaker noted that the reforms introduced by President Tinubu were already producing visible results across the country, particularly through increased federal allocations to states and local governments.
According to him, the impact of the reforms has been acknowledged by several governors nationwide, adding that the Oyo State APC should capitalise on the Federal Government’s policies to drive development at the grassroots and improve its electoral prospects.
“The President’s reforms are speaking for themselves, and governors across the country have seen the impact,” Lam-Adesina said.
“For us in Oyo State, we must take advantage of the President’s good governance, which has resulted in increased allocations to local governments, to drive grassroots development and secure victory for the APC in 2027.”
Lam-Adesina further argued that Oyo State would have recorded greater benefits over the past seven years if it had been politically aligned with the APC-led Federal Government.
He pointed out that some states previously governed by opposition parties had since aligned with the ruling party after recognising the advantages of working closely with the government at the centre.
“Oyo State should also return to the progressive fold and align with the Federal Government, as the state stands to benefit more from such alignment,” he added.
The former federal lawmaker also expressed optimism about the party’s chances in the next election, citing ongoing grassroots mobilisation and the APC’s online membership registration exercise across the 33 local government areas of Oyo State.
Speaking on his personal political ambitions ahead of the 2027 elections, Lam-Adesina said consultations with supporters and stakeholders were still ongoing.
He added that the direction of his political plans for the 2027 election would soon be made known to the public.
Oyo State is currently governed by Governor Seyi Makinde of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who assumed office in 2019, while the APC last governed the state under the late former governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi.
