The Oyo State government has inaugurated a special committee to address the lingering issues surrounding corridor and setback disputes on the 110km Senator Rashidi Ladoja Circular Road project. The committee, set up by Governor ‘Seyi Makinde, pledged to examine all submissions objectively and provide lasting, fair solutions for affected residents.
The committee was inaugurated on Thursday during its first meeting held at the Conference Room of the New Towns and Cities Development Authority, Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan. It comprises representatives of communities impacted by the project, Ibadan Mogajis from the six affected local government areas, council chairmen, the Chairman of Oyo State Local Government Chairmen, Hon. Sikiru Oyedele Sanda, and the Executive Adviser to the Governor on New Towns and Cities Development Authority, Mrs. Mofoluke Adebiyi.
Speaking after the inaugural session, Mrs. Adebiyi assured residents that the committee would thoroughly review all issues raised concerning the project and address them in line with the governor’s directives. She explained that the goal was to ensure that government policies are clearly communicated and implemented in a way that leaves every concerned resident satisfied.
“We want to ensure that the policies of government are properly driven home so that everybody smiles at the end of the day, particularly the residents that are affected,” she stated.
Her remarks followed Governor Makinde’s Wednesday engagement with affected property owners, during which he promised to constitute a committee to harmonize the concerns of residents with government plans for the ongoing Circular Road development.
Adebiyi further noted that the committee had been mandated to uphold all government policies on setbacks and corridor regulations for the project while ensuring fairness and justice for all stakeholders.
Hon. Sikiru Oyedele Sanda, Chairman of Egbeda Local Government, who spoke on behalf of affected council areas, expressed gratitude to Governor Makinde for fulfilling his promise to carry residents along. He commended the resilience of the people throughout the challenging period and assured them that all setback-related concerns would be resolved.
He added that the committee would work collaboratively with relevant agencies, Ibadan Mogajis, and representatives of the impacted communities to ensure that all critical issues are adequately addressed.
Also speaking, the representative of the Mogajis in the affected zones, Engr. Abduljelil Adanla, said the traditional leaders would work closely with community heads to ensure that residents remain engaged and informed throughout the process. He appealed for calm and encouraged continuous support for the government.
Other members of the committee include representatives from the Ministry of Lands and Urban Development and the Ministry of Works and Transport, among others.
The committee is expected to begin its detailed review immediately and submit its findings and recommendations to the state government.
